Music video director TG Omori has opened up about the huge amount of money he has spent on healthcare, using the cost of dialysis to highlight the financial burden that comes with dealing with serious health challenges.
Speaking during a recent interview, Omori explained that money plays an important role when someone is facing a major health condition, revealing that he has personally spent a significant amount on medical care.
“Money is actually important because I can’t lie to you, we’ve spent a lot of cr@zy money,” he said.
Giving an insight into the cost of dialysis, the music video director said a session could cost around ₦70,000 in some facilities, while others charge about ₦50,000.
However, he explained that the facility where he received treatment was more expensive because it offered a private and exclusive setting.
“Dialysis on a regular is like 70K, some hospitals 50K per session. But for me, where I used to do mine, or where I do mine, was around 150 to 200K because it’s like exclusive. It’s like a private kind of facilities,” he said.
Omori noted that patients undergoing dialysis may require the treatment up to three times a week, which can significantly increase the overall medical expenses.
“So sometimes you need three dialysis sessions in a week. So that’s about 500K a week. So a minimum wage person is de@d already on one session,” he said.
According to him, the financial burden can become even greater for patients waiting for a kidney transplant, as they may need to continue dialysis for an extended period.
“So now you’re waiting a year for a transplant. And for that one year you have to be on dialysis for a year so that’s 500K. That’s if you don’t have any complications because sometimes they have to run tests, they have to give you some medications,” Omori explained.
He further disclosed that the cost of a single session could sometimes rise to about ₦200,000, putting a patient’s weekly medical bill at around ₦600,000.
“So sometimes your bill might hit 200K per session. So in a week you’re probably looking at 600K. So if you calculate that in a year, 31 million,” he said.
Omori also pointed out that even someone earning ₦1 million monthly could struggle to cover such medical expenses alone.
“So automatically, if your salary is even one million naira a month, it can’t serve you. You know, it’s crazy. So you have to actually have money not just money, you have to have people that have money to also support you,” he added.
Reflecting on his experience, the music video director concluded that while money may not guarantee happiness, it can provide access to medical care and more time when faced with serious health challenges.
“So if you look at things like that, you understand that even though money can’t buy happiness, but money can still buy some time,” Omori said.
