Mbappé Back in Training as Real Madrid Monitor His Return After Knee Injury

Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé has provided an update on his recovery from the knee injury he suffered while playing for France during the international break.

The French superstar suffered a hyperextension to the back of his left knee during France’s match against Türkiye on September 25. He was forced to leave the game and subsequently returned to Madrid to begin his rehabilitation.

Mbappé Shows Progress in Recovery

Mbappé has now shared images showing him working on his recovery, including running on a treadmill and exercising on a bike.

The update comes amid attention surrounding his recent trip to Paris while recovering from the injury. Reports said some Real Madrid supporters questioned the trip, although the club clarified that Mbappé had received permission and continued his rehabilitation programme while in the French capital.

When Could Mbappé Return?

Current reports indicate that Mbappé could potentially be available for Real Madrid’s La Liga meeting with Villarreal on October 10.

However, his participation has not yet been confirmed. Real Madrid may choose to take a cautious approach and wait until the Champions League meeting with Roma on October 14 before bringing him back into competitive action.

The club’s medical assessment described the injury as a hyperextension of the posterior capsule of the left knee. Earlier reports indicated that the injury appeared relatively minor and that Real Madrid were taking precautions with the forward’s recovery.

Mbappé Remains in Ballon d’Or Spotlight

While recovering, Mbappé also remains one of the major names in the 2026 Ballon d’Or conversation.

Former Nigeria international John Utaka has backed the Real Madrid forward to win the award, pointing to his performances for both club and country.

The Ballon d’Or ceremony is scheduled for October 26 in London, meaning Mbappé’s return to full fitness will be closely watched by football fans around the world.

For now, Real Madrid’s priority will be ensuring that their star forward makes a complete recovery before returning to competitive football.
