The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is set to brief Nigerians and key stakeholders on Tuesday, October 6, as preparations for the 2027 general elections enter the final 100-day countdown.
The commission will hold a World Press Conference and National Stakeholders’ Meeting in Abuja to provide an update on its readiness for the elections.
According to INEC, the briefing will focus on important aspects of the electoral process, including the voters’ register, candidate nominations, logistics and measures being put in place to safeguard the integrity of the elections.
The meeting will be addressed by INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, alongside other stakeholders involved in the electoral process.
Political party leaders, security agencies, members of the diplomatic community, development partners, civil society organisations, election observers, traditional and religious leaders, youth organisations and media representatives are expected to participate.
INEC said the engagement is intended to promote transparency, strengthen public communication and improve cooperation among institutions and groups involved in the conduct of the elections.
Election dates
INEC has scheduled the presidential and National Assembly elections for January 16, 2027, while the governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections are scheduled for February 6, 2027.
The 100-day milestone therefore marks an important stage in preparations for the nationwide polls, with political parties, candidates, security agencies and other stakeholders increasingly focused on the elections.
INEC has also been carrying out readiness assessments across the country. The commission recently warned its officials against partisan conduct and said the collection of newly issued Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) is scheduled to begin on October 9, 2026.
What Nigerians will be watching
Among the issues likely to attract attention during Tuesday’s briefing are the state of the voters’ register, PVC collection, logistics, election technology, candidate nominations and security arrangements.
The commission is expected to use the engagement to explain how far preparations have progressed and address concerns surrounding the credibility and smooth conduct of the 2027 polls.
The meeting will take place at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja and will be broadcast live on major national television networks, with streaming also expected through INEC’s official social-media platforms.
With only 100 days remaining until the presidential and National Assembly elections, attention is now turning increasingly toward how INEC and other stakeholders will deliver a credible, peaceful and well-organised electoral process.
Utelnova will continue to monitor the development and bring readers updates from INEC’s briefing.
