‘How do I explain to my mother? Please, let us have a second chance’: Madonna nursing student expelled over viral TikTok challenge cries

One of the nursing students expelled for participating in a controversial TikTok challenge has appealed to the school authorities for a second chance, expressing fears about how to explain the situation to her mother.

In an emotional plea, the student urged the institution’s management to reconsider its decision and allow the affected students to continue their education.

“How do I explain to my mother? Please, let us have a second chance,” she said.

The students of Madonna University were reportedly expelled after a video of them participating in a TikTok challenge surfaced online and sparked widespread reactions over their conduct as nursing students.

In the viral video, the students were heard jokingly saying, “No sick o, na Gen Z full hospital,” while the accompanying caption read, “No sick oo, nah Gen Z full hospital.”

Their remarks reportedly raised concerns about their attitude towards patients and their responsibilities as nursing students, particularly given the importance of professionalism and discipline in the healthcare sector.

Reacting to the development, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) acknowledged that the students’ actions were inappropriate and amounted to misconduct. However, the association appealed to the university management to reconsider the expulsion and replace it with a stern warning or other disciplinary measures.

NANS argued that the punishment should focus on correcting the students’ behaviour rather than permanently disrupting their academic pursuits and future careers in nursing.

The association also appealed to the institution to give the affected students another opportunity to complete their training under strict conditions, stressing the importance of discipline and accountability in their professional development.
