UK Tragedy: Three Sisters Found Dead at Brighton Beach After Visiting Location Linked to Their Mother

A tragic family story has emerged in the United Kingdom after a coroner ruled that three sisters found dead in the sea near Brighton had taken their own lives, following an earlier visit to an area connected to their late mother’s death.

The sisters, identified as Jane Adetoro, 36, Christina Walters, 32, and Rebecca Walters, 31, were found dead near Brighton beach in southern England on May 13, 2026.

Their deaths were investigated by authorities, with an inquest hearing evidence about their final movements, family background and circumstances before the tragedy.

Senior coroner Penelope Schofield delivered her conclusion on October 8, 2026, ruling that the three women had intended to end their lives. The exact reasons behind their decision, however, remain unknown.

Sisters Visited Area Connected to Their Mother

During the inquest at Woodvale Coroner’s Court in Brighton, investigators explained that the sisters had travelled from their home in Greenford, west London, to Birmingham on May 11.

They were dropped off near the former home of their mother, Janice Adetoro, who died by drowning in 2010. The area was also close to Brookvale Park Lake, where their mother died.

The sisters returned to their shared home in London during the early hours of May 12.

Later that evening, they travelled by pre-booked taxi to Brighton, arriving near the seafront at approximately 10:21 p.m.

Investigators said the women were last believed to have been seen on beach CCTV footage at around 2:42 a.m. on May 13.

Emergency Services Responded to the Beach

Emergency services were alerted at approximately 5:45 a.m. after a person was spotted in the water.

Members of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) recovered Jane and Christina from the sea, while Rebecca was found on the shoreline.

All three women were pronounced dead that morning.

The inquest heard that the sisters could not swim and that sea conditions were adverse when they entered the water.

Post-mortem examinations established drowning as the cause of death. Investigators reported no evidence of drugs, alcohol or violence, and police found no indication that another person had been involved in their deaths.

Family Loss and Mental Health Concerns

The hearing also examined the sisters’ lives following their mother’s death.

Evidence presented at the inquest indicated that Christina had experienced anxiety and depression after losing her mother.

Investigators said medical records did not show comparable documented concerns for Jane, while Rebecca’s records contained no significant information of that nature.

The sisters were described during the proceedings as private individuals who lived secluded lives. Their reasons for travelling to Brighton and entering the sea could not be established with certainty.

The coroner cautioned against speculation, acknowledging that some questions surrounding the tragedy might never be answered.

Father Expresses Heartbreak Over Loss of Three Daughters

The sisters’ father, Joseph Jacobson, paid an emotional tribute to his daughters during the inquest.

In a written statement, he described losing all three children as a heartbreak beyond anything he could have imagined.

He expressed his continuing love for Jane, Christina and Rebecca and said their place in his life would never change.

His statement captured the profound grief experienced by the family following the deaths of all three sisters.

A Tragedy That Raises Questions About Bereavement and Support

The case has drawn attention to the possible long-term effects of bereavement, social isolation and emotional distress.

However, the coroner did not establish a definitive explanation linking the sisters’ mother’s death to their final decision.

The inquest concluded that the three sisters died by suicide, while acknowledging that the precise circumstances behind their actions might never be fully understood.

Their deaths have left their family mourning three lives lost in circumstances that continue to raise painful questions.
