Akwa Ibom Governor Approves 13th-Month Pension Bonus, ₦10,000 Extra for Retirees

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has approved a 13th-month pension bonus for pensioners in the state, alongside an additional ₦10,000 welfare support for November 2026.

The governor announced the packages during an event organised by the State Council of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners at Ibom Hall Grounds in Uyo.

According to the announcement, the ₦10,000 support will be added to the November 2026 pension payment of every eligible state pensioner.

Governor Eno said the gesture was aimed at recognising the contributions of retired public servants who dedicated their working years to the development of Akwa Ibom State.

Government speaks on gratuity backlog

The governor also disclosed that his administration had paid ₦100 billion out of the ₦111 billion gratuity backlog inherited from previous administrations.

He assured pensioners that efforts were ongoing to clear the outstanding balance before the end of his first term in office.

Free health insurance for elderly pensioners

Eno further encouraged pensioners aged 65 and above to enrol in the state government’s health insurance scheme, which he said provides free coverage for the age group.

The initiative is expected to improve access to healthcare for elderly residents.

The announcements have drawn attention to pension welfare and the financial support available to retired public servants in Akwa Ibom State.
