FIFA, CAF orders suspension of NFF electoral process indefinitely

FIFA and CAF officially suspended the NFF electoral process via a formal letter signed by Elkhan Mammadov, Chief Member Associations Officer, following the sudden collapse of the federation’s executive board.

A joint fact-finding delegation is heading to Nigeria to address the NFF leadership crisis following the mass resignation of principal officers on August 27 amid scrutiny over national team failures.

As reported by Premium Times, FIFA has ordered the immediate suspension of the NFF elective congress previously set for September 27 to maintain the status quo during the evaluation.

Following discussions in Zurich between Nigerian officials and FIFA leadership regarding reforms, Daily Post noted that while a transitional committee was initially anticipated, FIFA clarified that no final agreement has been made, opting instead for on-the-spot consultations in Abuja.

While on-pitch failures originally sparked the crisis, news reports have revealed that the mass resignation coincided with active investigations into the alleged mismanagement of ₦17 billion (approximately $11 million) in government funds intended for national team wages and player bonuses.

Nigeria continues to face potential scrutiny over third-party interference rules, with FIFA and CAF stressing that no definitive decisions have been reached.
