President Bola Tinubu has addressed growing speculation about his son Seyi Tinubu’s political ambition, saying the younger Tinubu is supporting his father’s political cause rather than seeking a political office for himself.

The President made the remarks while addressing an event organised by the City Boy Movement, where he praised Seyi for mobilising young Nigerians and encouraging their participation in political activities.

Tinubu disclosed that he had received calls from people asking what his son intended to contest, given his growing involvement in political mobilisation.

“Now permit me a personal moment, with my son, Seyi. I have watched what you’ve started with City Boy. I got some calls within the last few weeks asking me what is Seyi running for. He’s running after his father,” the President said.

The President commended Seyi and his colleagues for engaging young people, listening to their concerns and organising them without demanding political titles or government appointments.

He also encouraged his son to intensify his efforts, urging him to do more, serve harder and set an example for future generations.

The remarks come amid growing public attention on Seyi’s role in the City Boy Movement, which mobilises support for the President and his political agenda ahead of the 2027 general election.

Although speculation about Seyi’s possible future in elective politics has continued, Tinubu’s comments did not announce a specific political position that his son intends to contest.

The development is likely to generate further discussion about the role of political mobilisation, youth participation and family influence in Nigeria’s political landscape as preparations for the next general election gather momentum.

Utelnova Takeaway: Tinubu’s remarks offer a clearer explanation of how he views his son’s current political activities, but they do not establish whether Seyi Tinubu will seek elective office in the future.
